Bata in Indonesia

 

In 1931, the name was etched in Indonesia, 14 years before the Republic of Indonesia proclamation. Bata had the cooperation with NV, Netherlandsch-Indisch as shoes importer that operated in Tanjung Priok.

Six years later, Tomas Bata established shoes factory in midst of rubber plantation in Kalibata area, located in Jl. Kalibata Raya Jakarta Selatan. Shoes production itself run ever since 1940.

In 1982, PT.Sepatu Bata, TBK listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange on March 24. In 1994, Bata had completed the construction of Purwakarta Factory.

 

As one of the largest shoes factory in the country, it was fully specialized in the production of PVC injected footwear for both domestic and overseas market. Bata Indonesia currently occupies 6-storey building; aptly named PT.Sepatu Bata, TBK in Cilandak, South Jakarta.

 

Today, the Bata brand in Indonesia has truly come a long way. What used to be a household name for school shoes with the tagline “Back to School,” has gone on to serve different segments of the market. This includes other brands such as Marie Claire, Comfit, Power, Bubblegummers, North Star,

B-First, and Weinbrenner.

 

Bata is, undeniably, a leading footwear and marketer in the nation. It operates a retail chain of 435 stores all over the country, consisting of Family and City Stores. Each of the Bata retail stores differs from the other in terms of its merchandises’ range. Bata Indonesia also operates the Wholesale Department which services many independent dealers.
